Learners studying bricklaying, plastering and other trades skills at Preston Vocational Centre attended an exciting site visit earlier this month to oversee a demolition taking place in Grange, Ribbleton.
The demolition took place at ‘Ribble Heights’, where Community Gateway Association – PVC’s parent organisation – owns five blocks of flats.
Equipped with hard hats and hi-vis jackets, the learners observed the demolition carried out by Bradley Demolition Ltd, to safely bring down the flats which no longer served the community and were vacant for a long time.
PVC Centre Manager, Martin Grayston, said:
"It’s so important that we give our students these vital opportunities to see real-life situations and speak to experienced tradespeople who are doing these jobs day in, day out.
"Site visits like this provide invaluable lessons, from understanding health and safety protocols to learning about site setup and management.
"The learners thoroughly enjoyed it, and they’ve all told me what a great experience it was. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Community Gateway and Bradley Demolition Ltd for this amazing opportunity."
